The journey of an aspiring fighter #54

Probably the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me is the announcement that The Ultimate Fighter will be holding an open tryout in 6 weeks time. It’s for my weight class, which is incredible, but it’s in Las Vegas which purely because of the distance, is less incredible. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Las Vegas, but it’s bloody miles away!

The Ultimate Fighter is a platform in which lesser known fighters can audition to be a part of a 15 strong cast to form a television series based around multiple fights.

I will be attempting to raise £2,000 to cover the flight, accommodation and food costs I will incur during the tryouts. Call me as crazy as you like, but this is a once in a life time opportunity that was just too good to pass up.

Of course the usual thoughts have gone through my head, “Am I good enough?” “Will everyone just laugh at me?” “Am I making a huge mistake by putting myself in this situation?” But I am very lucky to have some amazing people around me that have assured me that yes, I am doing the right thing, and yes it is going to be hard but it is going to be 110% worth it.

The last 48 hours have been an absolute whirlwind and I’m not sure I even remember some of it. I’ve been absolutely inundated with messages of support from different people, which has been amazing in itself, but it really helps me to believe my dreams can be a reality.
